What they are, what they are for and how they can help you.
What it is
What is a silicone toe orthosis?
A custom silicone orthosis is a protective and offloading device that I make directly on your foot, using medical-grade silicones that hold the intended shape once they set and fit precisely. Because they are made for you, they are barely noticeable.
How it is made
How is a custom silicone orthosis made?
Assessment: I examine your foot and the cause of the discomfort.
Moulding: I prepare the silicone and shape it on your foot.
Adjustment: once it has set, I refine it.
Review: I check that everything is right at follow-up appointments.
Uses
What is a silicone toe orthosis used for?
Silicone orthoses are used to protect, relieve and compensate various problems of the toes and forefoot:
Claw or hammer toes, to reduce pressure or friction on the top or the tip of the toe.
Bunions (hallux valgus), as a separator or protector between the toes.
Corns between the toes, known as soft corns (interdigital helomas).
Toe deviations.
Protection after treatment or for at-risk feet (for example, the diabetic foot, depending on assessment).
Toe amputations.

Care
How do I look after my silicone orthosis?
Wash it daily with lukewarm water and mild soap.
Dry it well with a towel and, if you like, apply a little talcum powder.
Keep it away from direct heat (radiators, hairdryers, strong sun).
Store it in its case when you are not wearing it.
Wear it with your usual shoes, building up gradually over the first few days.
With good care, a silicone orthosis usually lasts several months, depending on use and the type of piece.
When should I come back?
If you notice redness, rubbing or new discomfort.
If the silicone tears, deforms or loses its shape.
